Vice-Chancellor of University of Jos, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako, has commended the University’s Students Football Team for emerging victorious in the 29th and 30th Convocation friendly football match with the Staff Team as part of the University’s Convocation activities.
Professor Maimako gave the commendation at the Jeremiah Useni Stadium,Naraguta Campus of the University, where the Students engaged Staff in a thrilling encounter.
According to him, the match was part of recreational events lined up ahead of the Convocation, to lighten up the Ceremony, by making all to relax and prepare for the Convocation grand finale.
Professor Maimako, who took the Ceremonial kick-off, said such matches provided an opportunity to identify talents, who could make Nigeria proud.
He assured the footballers that before the end of the year, more sporting facilities would be provided in the institution to fully accommodate other sporting activities.
Speaking earlier, Chairman,Unijos Sports Committee, Nandi Drenkat, appreciated the University Management for supporting sporting activitiesin the University, and said that the Sports Committee would continue to do its best to produce talents from the various sportswho would represent the University and the Nation at large.
According to him, subsequent Convocation ceremonies would incorporate other facets of sports besides football, in order to involve other athletes.
Drenkat, who commented on the outcome of the match, said there was no victor, no vanquished, as it was just a friendly match organized to unite the teams and hunt for talents from within the University.
He, however, congratulated the Students Team for securing a six-nil victory against the Staff Team. He also commended the Staff Team for a good team work, saying in every competition, there must be a winner and a loser.
The Student Team recorded its first goal at the 18th minute through Vincent Garba, who scored a hat trick (three goals) in the match. The other three goals were scored by Emmanuel Samson, Bani and Philemon Leonard.
