The World Organization of Animal Health has commended Authorities of the University of Jos for the rapid transformation currently taking place in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University.
Similarly, the Veterinary Council of Nigeria says the rate at which the Faculty is developing has now made it one of the most sought after in the country which is a demonstration of the University’s commitment to academic enterprise.
The commendations were made during separate visits by a delegation from the World Organization of Animal Health led by Dr (Mrs) Maimuna and the President of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, AIG (Dr) Aisha Abubakar to the University of Jos Veterinary Teaching Hospital around Polo Round-a-bout in Jos.
Dr (Mrs) Maimuna and her team of international experts in Veterinary Medicine had stopped over at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital where the University of Jos Management was taking over a newly constructed Generator House Project at the Hospital from the Contractors, Ogas Project Limited.
Taking over the facility, the Vice-Chancellor University of Jos, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako commended the Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Professor (Mrs) Lami Lombin for nursing the young Faculty to a position where it is being ranked as one of the best in Nigeria.
Professor Maimako expressed delight that all the stakeholders had closely collaborated towards making the Project a reality especially the Project Contractors, Staff of the University’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Directorate of Physical Facilities.
Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Professor Lami Lombin, appreciated the University Administration especially the Vice-Chancellor for always being responsive to their requests. According to her, Professor Maimako has been the driving force behind the tremendous transformation at Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) which is another testament to his proven leadership qualities.
During an earlier visit, President of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, AIG (Dr) Aisha Abubakar said the University of Jos Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is experiencing exponential growth which she alluded to the synergy existing among the various stakeholders. She assured that the Veterinary Council would do its best to assist the University’s Veterinary Programme achieve its objectives.
The Vice-Chancellor was also at the University’s Health Services Directorate to take delivery of the newly completed Office Block housing its Disease Prevention and Environmental Sanitation Unit. Receiving the Vice-Chancellor and his team, the Director, Health Services, Dr. Benedict Mairiga noted that nothing is impossible to achieve once you set your mind to it. He stressed that the Project has taken added significance because the issue of Disease Prevention and Environmental Sanitation is now in the front burner due to the out-break of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Dr. Mairiga appreciated the Vice-chancellor for delivering Six (6) different Projects to the University’s Health Services Centre during his tenure.
